Cleveland’s signature summer concert series returns this year with all the bands, food, and fun concert-goers have come to expect, but this year weekly themes will give each concert a new twist.
“I think the secret to WOW’s success is a combination of the community coming together and good word of mouth advertising,” says Chris Ronayne, president of UCI. “Our staff has worked incredibly hard to make sure people see and experience something new week after week and year after year. We attract great local musical acts, host some of Cleveland’s best food vendors, and we haven’t forgotten about the kids. Word has started to spread about what a great event WOW! is, and here we are with thousands of people from all over the region coming to Wade Oval each Wednesday night.”
This year promises to be WOW’s best, with returning favorites and new surprises. There will be 12 bands with different genre of music each week from rock to reggae, to salsa to swing! July and August’s performers include Nick Tolford & Company, Son Gitano, Jah Messenger Reggae Band, Red Light Roxy, Wild Horses, and The Cleveland Bluegrass Orchestra performed by members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Intermission is every bit as lively as the concerts with zumba and yoga demonstrations. New this year are theme nights including a 4th of July picnic night, a Healthy Night with the Cleveland Clinic & University Hospitals who will offer free health screenings, a Gay Games 9 night, a Cleveland Birthday Bash with Ohio Homecoming, and much more! After the concerts on July 9 and August 13, stay for a movie under the stars!
Kids will enjoy weekly trips to the two free inflatable bounce houses or take a ride around University Circle in style in the Euclid Beach Boys Rocket Ship. Proceeds from the rides will benefit the Jimmy Malone Scholarship Fund and UCI’s Future Connections high school internship program.
“We have a lot of exciting things happening this summer at WOW,” says Ronayne. “We encourage you to bring your family and friends to Wade Oval and see what everyone is talking about. WOW is uniquely Cleveland and is a truly special University Circle event.”
