We Need to Work Together to Effect Greater Change

"I remember waiting for someone to come in and make changes.  I didn't realize that I was waiting for myself." - Bevelynn Bravo,   Resident Leader, San Diego, California

Neighborhood Connections believes that all people have gifts that they can contribute to improve their neighborhood and that everyone is needed.  We also believe that all communities have assets which include a neighborhood's people, civic associations, institutions, and public resources. We also believe that all residents have the ability to work together to strengthen their community. And most importantly, we strongly believe that residents need to be at the center of these efforts that determines what happens in their communities.

In this time of limited resources and economic distress, it's more important than ever to think and act collectively to create the community that we envision. When people come together and decide to be part of the solution, we become stronger as individuals and as a community. We all have gifts and wisdom to offer. Sometimes we need support, we may need someone to ask for guidance, and sometimes we need financial assistance. But most of all, we need each other to make Cleveland the kind of city we envision.

In an effort to create a stronger, more just and vibrant city,  Neighborhood Connections hosts gatherings for resident leaders, grassroots organizations, non profit leaders, policy makers, and government representatives to come together to share experiences, learn from each other, develop relationships, and to build their skills and capacity to effect greater change in their communities.

For the next year, Neighborhood Connections is focusing on three main issues for these trainings and discussions: the foreclosure crisis, vacant land reuse, and social inclusion. Through these discussions, trainings, and convenings, we hope to encourage stronger grassroots activity on these issues while promoting greater connections within and across neighborhoods between residents, non profits, business, government officials, and others.
