Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away they were meant to be there — to serve some purpose, teach a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You do not always know why these people cross your path, but you know they will affect your life in some profound way. Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of luck. All happens to test the limits of your soul.
I recently spoke with a young woman who was in active treatment for cancer. For the sake of privacy, I will call her Parker. During my time with her, she shared how she felt cheated and wondered why this happened to her. Parker said cancer had proven to be the most difficult challenge she ever had to face.
However, she noted the support of family, friends and community has been a gift. She said she has met so many wonderful people who have helped fill her with gratitude.
Parker said she wanted to personally show each person how much his or her support has meant to her.
The successes and downfalls we all experience create who we are, and the bad experiences can be learning experiences. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones. No one expects to wake up one day to find her world has been turned upside down. However, if that day should come, be aware of life and how others are placed in it for a reason. Without these small tests, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere — safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.
Nothing happens by chance.
