Cleveland Clinic to Launch ‘Healthy Communities’ in Fairfax Neighborhood

‘Fit in Fairfax’ will kick off its inaugural event at the Langston Hughes Community Health and Education Center on September 18, 2014, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event’s launch, part of Cleveland Clinic’s Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI), will feature wellness speakers, Healthy Heart Screenings, free raffles, children’s activities, cooking demonstrations, neighborhood organizations, vendor tables, and a host of activities that are designed to help Fairfax residents maintain healthy lifestyles. 

Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Clinic will also unveil its first digital mammography unit. Attendees will be able to schedule mammogram appointments while at the event.

“Fit in Fairfax” is a collaboration between Cleveland Clinic and several community partners, including: Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Community Outreach, Councilwoman Mamie Mitchell, Cleveland City Council – Ward 6, Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation, Fairfax Recreation Center, PNC Fairfax Connection, Karamu House, and Senior Outreach Services.

The program was created as a result of the Community Health Needs Assessment and will combine resources within the Fairfax community to target education, nutrition and physical activity.
