The pressure is on. A new year has been ushered in. What will be different for you this year? Will you continue on the same path, with the same thoughts and behaviors? Or will you venture out of your comfort zone and grow leaps and bounds to build a better you?
I was recently stretched beyond my personal and professional comfort zone! I felt like the pressure was on and the heat had been turned up to 100 degrees. I wanted to hide in my bed with the covers pulled over my head. I was being stretched and felt overwhelmed with an abundance of responsibilities. I poured my heart out in prayer day after day seeking peace, reassurance and the strength to endure.
When we are being stretched beyond our comfort zone, we must remember that we are being molded for something new. We are being pushed to grow beyond what we are used to and all that we know. When this happens, we have no choice but to depend on something to help us gain our footing. In my office, I have this quote on my desk that brings this point home: “When you come to the edge of all that you know, faith is knowing that one of two things will happen. Either there will be something to step on or you will be taught how to fly.”
Note that either way there is a solid foundation to depend on.
When we are being stretched, there are some ways we can fortify ourselves. We can:
- Strengthen our faith in God, for He is preparing us for great work.
- Strengthen our dependence on God. When He places us in unknown territory, He wants us to turn to Him to figure out how to navigate through.
- Strengthen our witness to those around us and those we have yet to meet.
Yes, the pressure is on in 2014 to live differently, think differently – to grow into a better you. Will you rise to the challenge? Remember it is not by your own might, power, or strength, but all in the name of our savior, Jesus Christ. Oh wait….perhaps you are not a believer. Then perhaps the pressure is really on for you to start thinking differently. Are you ready?
